!#@+?*….why the hell didn’t that bus driver wait for me?

At least several times a week I get the question “Why didn’t that driver wait for me?” Obviously, I can’t speak for other drivers. But what I can do is share some reasoning or possibilities as to why a bus might not wait at the other corner to pick you up.

1. I’ll just get this one over with and say that although you might not believe me…maybe they just didn’t see you 🙂

2. Buses have nice big windows, but they also have a lot of blind spots. So you might think that the driver sees you walking or running towards the bus…but they might not.

3. The time of day is definitely a factor. If it’s rush hour and the driver knows there’s another bus right behind them or if they are running late…they might not wait for you. Some schedules can be pretty tight.

4. The driver might have been sitting at the stop for a while already and maybe out of respect for the traffic building up behind the bus, they might have to move.

5. If you’re running across a red light to try and catch the bus. Some drivers do not stay just because of the shear ignorance of that person. Too many pedestrian accidents/fatalities are caused because of someone jay walking or running across an intersection to try and catch the bus.

6. And finally, yes, there are drivers that just don’t give a damn…if you’re not at the stop, the bus isn’t waiting.

“THE BUS RUNS FOR THOSE WHO WAIT…IT DOESN’T WAIT FOR THOSE WHO RUN!”

And believe me, as a driver myself, I’ve been on the losing end of stick with this issue. I’ve been in uniform trying to catch a bus and it’s has driven off when I was no more then 10 feet away or waving my arm frantically trying to get them to stop. So please don’t think it’s anything personal (unless you did something to piss that driver off 😛 ), it happens to everyone.
